Prompt: People sometimes feel the need to step away from their normal routines or environments in order to better understand themselves. Describe a time when you needed distance from a situation, place, or group of people in order to think more clearly or gain perspective. What did that experience teach you about yourself?

Prompt Response: A time when I needed to distance myself from a situation, place, or group of people in order to think more clearly or gain perspective was at work. It was a very busy Friday night and I work in the kitchen running food. I was overloaded with a large amount of tickets and it was very overstimulating. On top of that, servers kept messing up various things. In order to calm myself I had to take a step outside and cool down. What I learned from that is if you're in a difficult situation, get frustrated, take a breather and come back with a fresh mind.

Summary: I learned about what's going on in chapter 2-3.

Reflection: I worked on reading chapters 2-3 and worked on the worksheet.

Prompt: After watching the short film Identity, write a blog post reflecting on how the masks in the film represent the pressure to fit in and the struggle to discover who you really are. Choose one moment from the film that stood out to you and explain why. Then, connect the film’s message to Langston Hughes’ poem “I, Too” and to the mask you are creating in class. What part of your identity do you want your mask to reveal?
