Prompt: McCandless set out to live independently in the wilderness, but his death reveals the harsh reality of nature and survival. In your blog post, analyze how his desire for independence contributed to his death. Then, connect this idea to your own life by explaining a time when you wanted complete independence or control over a situation. Did things go as planned, or did you face unexpected challenges?

Prompt Response: McCandless's desire for independence contributed to his death due to the lack of planning and knowledge. Chris went into the wilderness with no experience and expected to successfully survive without problems. A time when I wanted complete independence or control over a situation was planning Spring Break sophomore year. Some friends and I were going to the beach so I decided to take responsibility over planning our days. I didn't want any help from my parents and it turned into a disaster. I wasn't experienced in dealing with reservations, last minute moments, etc. This is a time when I wanted complete independence or control over a situation.

Summary: I learned about new perspectives from Into The Wild film.

Reflection: I watched the Into The Wild movie.

Prompt: After watching the short film Identity, write a blog post reflecting on how the masks in the film represent the pressure to fit in and the struggle to discover who you really are. Choose one moment from the film that stood out to you and explain why. Then, connect the film’s message to Langston Hughes’ poem “I, Too” and to the mask you are creating in class. What part of your identity do you want your mask to reveal?
